Display Your Foursquare Check-ins on Google Maps in 2 Steps

Here is how to view your view your Foursquare check-ins on Google Maps.

  1. Visit your foursquare feeds page. Right click and copy the KML link  (no need to download it).
  2. Visit Google Maps and paste your copied link into the search box. Hit enter.

You can also add “?count=100″ (or any number that you’d like to see) to the end of the URL (after .KML) to see a specific number of check-ins.  About Foursquare also has some cool tricks on tracking your check-ins with Google Calendar and Google Earth.

Filter Out Annoying Tweets With The New TweetDeck

TweetDeck (v 0.34.1) updated their twitter client last week to include a ton of new features and fixes including Google Buzz & Foursquare integration, the ability to schedule tweets, the option to add video to your tweets (direct webcam too), custom URL shortening services and my favorite, global filters.

With global filters, you can easily filter out a person, tag, keyword or source.  Let’s say you have a good friend who you really don’t want to unfollow, but sometimes they go a little overboard with their so-called ‘sharing’.  Go to your TweetDeck settings, shimmy on down to global filters and either plug in their username or hastag and they are automagically removed from your stream.  It’s very similar to hiding someone on Facebook.  No hurt feelings and you can easily undo any filter once they’ve come down off their high horse.  The offending party never knows you’ve filtered them out. Here’s a peak at how it works.

Question Of The Day

If you had to choose just one, would you rather give up Facebook or Twitter?  Which one has more value in your life? Which one has more staying power? Discuss.

Threat Level Orange. Find Out How Much of Your Life is Exposed on Facebook.

ReclaimPrivacy.org has a handy bookmarklet that shows which potentially insecure and privacy-invading settings are enabled on your Facebook account when you click it.

ReclaimPrivacy’s bookmarklet focuses on just a few key areas where Facebook can share information with the public—having your contacts, connections, and tagged photos exposed to the public, as well as allowing your friends to accidentally expose that information themselves. It also looks at your relationship with Facebook’s personalization, applications, and other aspects to see what Facebook and independent developers can find out about you, then rates your exposure level in simple Good, Caution, or Insecure levels, along with offering links to change those settings.

Check-In To The Foursquare App Store

Foursquare launched their shiny new app store today.  It only has 10 apps to start, but includes games, visualization and augmented reality apps as well as a few that tie all your location-based services (like Gowalla, Brightkite) together in one place.  Each app has it’s own page that gives a short blurb and screenshot of the application.

I’m also glad to see the first Foursquare iPad app is available.  It will set you back $2.
